About Us

After a few years as several informal volunteers’ groups and email lists, New Media Arts, Inc. incorporated in California in 2010 to put a formal footing under our projects, and to help with starting new ones. We are a nonprofit foundation, tax exempt under IRC 501(c)(3). Our board members, volunteers and users are from all over the world. Donations may be tax deductible depending on your location and circumstances. We operate in virtual worlds, preferring open source platforms such as OpenSim, using open source software and resources to promote and operate arts and education projects.

Avatar Repertory Theater runs theater workshops and produces plays and videos in virtual worlds, where costuming, props, actor representations and sets are all digital and virtual – live animation with avatars. Actors and audiences are in their avatar forms, not limited by gender, race, size, age, health or geographical location.

New Viewer Avatar is a project in the OpenSim community grids. This is a library of models, data, and code for viewer avatars.

Metaverse Registration Agency is a project also in the OpenSim community grids, creating and using algorithms that help protect the intelectual property rights of creators in virtual environments.

Arcadia Asylum Asset Archives is a project to restore, in open source platforms, the artworks of Arcadia Asylum/Aley, a virtual world artist who created in Second Life between 2006-2014.
